DKNY (Donna Karan New York) is a new fashion label held by the American designer Donna Karan. Together with her husband Stephen Weiss, she founded the label in 1985 in New York, USA. Karan was born on October 2, 1948 in Forest Hills, Queens, USA. She grew up in Long Island and visited in 1966 the New Yorker artist school “Parsons – The New School For Design”.

A lot of new ideas came from Donna’s husband

Donna Karan worked as head designer and created the characteristic style of DKNY. Her purpose was to merge ease and luxurious elements. While she was evolving her first collection, Donna Karan orientated herself on the needs of her family. Particularly her husband gave her a lot of inspiration and so Donna Karan was capable to release her first menswear collection “DKNY Men” in 1992.

The opening of their premier flagship store took place in London in 1997. Two years later the famous shop at 550, 7th Avenue in New York followed. At the moment, there are more than 70 DKNY stores worldwide including affiliates in China (Shanghai and Hong Kong), Canada (Montreal and Toronto) and even Dubai.

Wrist watches are an large part of the DKNY collection

The products of the company range from clothes to bags, baby stuff and shades and include almost all sorts of clothes and accessories. Watches are an important part of the DKNY collection, too. Donna Karan produces various collections for women and men. Few unisex products are offered by DKNY as well.

Designer watches of DKNY are known for their attractive price-performance ratio. They are affordable and ensure also high quality. All the wrist watches are developed and made with excellent materials like real stainless steel, silver, gold or leather. The so named “stainless steel watches” belong to the most well-known collection DKNY wrist watches. The wristwatches are as elegant as their fashion clothes and accessories are. Apropos: Since 2007, wrist watches are along with jeans and underclothing the only products of DKNY, that have been online available for men. women wrist watches

From pocket watch to a fashion accessory. What was once, in the earliest years of portable watches, considered to be unsuitable for men and only for women, has developed nowadays into a fashion utensil that everybody has. Meanwhile, the wrist watch is no longer just a instrument to tell which time it is. It is a designer piece and can indicate much more than the time.

A great deal of mechanics in a small housing

The first verifiable portable timepiece was built in 1500. This was not a wrist watch, but more of a pocket watch. Through technical advance, which made it possible for people to house mechanics in an more and more smaller space, the necessary parts of the clockworks were able to be brought into a manageable form. In this way, the first pocket watch was born, which at the time was still the size of an egg.

The computerized wristwatch from Japan

A totally new wrist watch came onto the market in the 1970’s from Japan, which had developed its own watch industry. The new wristwatch from Japan was no longer set on a mechanical basis, but on a computerized control. This wrist watch expanded its range of capacity rapidly. The watch no more just showed the time. The tiny timepiece on the wrist now also knew the date, the day of the week and even knew whether a leap year was involved.

The wristwatch as jewelry

Now, the wrist watch is much more than a watch. The wristwatch has turn into a fashion accessory. Wristwatches come in all colouration and forms thinkable. One can also buy compatible watches from all fashion collection. The current watches are dominated by the correct fashion trends. Despite these various trends, there is something for every taste. The small watches, which need eyeglasses to tell the time, and the extraordinary large watches, which make it difficult to walk upright. Anyway, one thing is sure: science is still likely to make so much progress – that the wristwatch will be seen on the wrists of people for a long time, to respond to the question as to what time it is.
