The Key to Stopping Killer Bee and Locust Swarms is Understanding How They Work

Filed under: Video Resources at 1:27 pm Comments Off

Have you ever wondered how an insect swarm works? How it maintains flight or how for instance a Locust Plague can be so devastating in such short periods of time and even travel 1000 miles in less than a week? Well one group in an online think tank recently asked these questions. One member stated;

“If air velocity increases, as I suspect it does, would it not stand to reason that each bee would have to expend MORE energy to maintain flight, not less? It would be like flying into a head wind. The ground speed is less to the exact speed of the head wind. We pretty much all are aware of this effect”

I think if you will figure in the rest of the concepts and actual airflows you will see how they do it and also take into consideration the ground cushion. Faster relative wind created by all the other units in the swarm increase efficiency of the wing. Just like the faster you go the more airflows over the wing of an aircraft, meaning more lift. Everyone wins in the swarm. Except the poor bastard who is the target; that is to say the attackee.

The inquiring member then states; “Some other element must play a part of the flight capability of the bee. I think that something is a sound wave, backpressure from sound energy that each bee creates with the beat of the wing

Well indeed this is why I am entertaining your line of thinking is that it is intriguing and a reasonable question. And as far as I am concerned, even if you are wrong, well I could care less because, I believe we could make a Mechanical Insect which did thus better natures design and exploiting sound as an additional tool.

Not only for flight, but for communication between MEMs or Micro-MAVs, as well as the sole power source by sending even BLOS sound waves to a point at which the micro-MAV swarm or SmartDust has been sent to. I am interested in this, way ahead of the screwing around with insects.

Sure lets learn what nature can teach us and never negate 400 million years of evolution of these fantastic creatures, but let’s build a better bug for other uses. Perhaps to interact with the bees to help them do their job better helping us pollinate the fields and we will build them better and safer starting structures from predators and weather for their honeycomb domiciles? Consider this in 2006.

Union Members Don ‘t Be Fooled, Conservative Talkers Have it in for You

Filed under: Way Out at 12:54 am Comments Off

Ever wonder why labor unions consistently endorse democrats over republicans in nearly every election? The answer is simple. Democratic officials support the right of workers to unionize and collectively bargain. Ronald Reagan, the great communicator, communicated loud and clear that he didn’t recognize unions, or their right to strike, when he decertified the air traffic controllers union in 1981. This executive order led to the largest labor protest in our nation’s history when 400, 000 men and women protested in Washington, DC against the policies of the Reagan administration. Reagan’s message was clear; it is legal to fire striking workers.

Listening to talk radio today, you would think that the millions who listen to Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity are all large business owners. They can’t possibly be working people. Blue collar laborers would never support talk show hosts whose ideas and rhetoric are overtly anti-union, right? Wrong. American working people, who live pay-check to pay check, all too often think they have more in common with Donald Trump than a homeless person. Nevertheless, they are often one-paycheck away from homelessness and millions of dollars away from the financial status of “The Donald,” or Sean Hannity, for that matter. And it’s not just big national names like Hannity and Rush. New York talk radio host Curtis Sliwa, who has changed his political ideology as often as a chameleon changes colors, recently criticized home-health care aids for striking over their seven dollar an hour salaries.

Nevertheless, these hosts position themselves as heroes of the working class. What’s worse is working class callers like Vinny from Queens and Joe from the Bronx contribute to the success of anti-labor talk-hosts like Sliwa and WABC overnight man Steve Malzberg. Malzberg appeared at a labor rally at New York’s City Hall standing beside Fire and Police Department union leaders calling for a raise. New York City teacher’s union President Randi Weingarten was there with Malzberg, too. I wonder if she knows that Malzberg mocks New York City teachers nightly, calling them unqualified and their students ill-prepared. Surely he believes these unqualified teachers deserve a raise! Malzberg’s support for the police needs no explanation. All good conservatives support the police.

One should not be puzzled as to why union members vote for the Republican politicians that pass anti-union legislation. Sure labor unions protect their workers from layoffs, negotiate salary increases and protect benefits and pensions, but it’s the republicans that protect the working class from the socialist-democrats who take working people’s hard earned money and give it to lazy, crack addicted, baby making minorities. Good Catholics like Hannity use their forum to make sure that our hard earned taxdollars are not redistributed to the poor.

I thought the gospel mentions in passing about taking care of the poor. I must be wrong. And the atheist democrats, who want to take “In God we trust” off our money, somehow think it’s the responsibility of a civilized society to provide housing, food and medical care to the poor. Like Limbaugh says, “…the democrats are about symbolism over substance.” Why should the wealthiest nation in the world, The United States, make sure all of its citizens have a place to sleep and have access to free medical care? Such radical ideas are only embraced by the socialist members of the G-8. Well, I guess that makes them all socialist, or dare I say it, LIBERAL.

Now those of you who are union members remember: unions reward mediocrity. You would be far better off in the laissez-faire world of Walter Williams. You don’t have to read Bill O’Reilly’s book to know who is looking out for you. Limbaugh and Hannity take to the air waves daily to remind you that the multi-million dollar corporations are. Without government interference, the invisible hand will make sure that your hard work pays off. And remember, when republicans legislate away the right of workers to organize, this is not government interference in the economy. On the contrary, they are preserving your chance to be another, Hannity, Rush or Trump.

What is Agoraphobia?

Filed under: Way Out at 6:57 pm Comments Off

Most people have heard of most phobias. Mention claustrophobia, social phobia, or arachnophobia and everyone pretty much knows what you are talking about. Mention agoraphobia, and most people will just shake their heads.

Because of this, many people who get agoraphobia often take a year, and in some cases, many years, just finding out what is wrong with them. Since the panic and anxiety symptoms that come with agoraphobia are so physical, people who get agoraphobia commonly visit a succession of doctors trying in search of a diagnosis. Since medical doctors are not usually trained to diagnose agoraphobia, let alone anxiety disorders, agoraphobia has had time to become deeply rooted in most people before they know enough about the disorder to seek the proper treatment and being recovery.

In light of this, here are some basics about agoraphobia:

Agoraphobia is “anxiety about, or avoidance of, places or situations from which escape might be difficult (or embarrassing) or in which help may not be available in the event of having a panic attack or panic-like symptoms.” (DSM-IV)

Agoraphobia is a type of anxiety disorder. The term “agoraphobia” comes from the Greek words agora (αγορά), meaning “marketplace,” and phobia (φόβος), meaning “fear.” Literally translated as “fear of the marketplace,” people with agoraphobia are afraid of open or public spaces.

In reality, most people with agoraphobia are not so much afraid of open and public places as they are afraid of having a panic attack in these settings, especially settings in which there may be no one to help in the case of a panic attack or actual emergency.

The most common symptoms of agoraphobia are:

1) Panic Attacks: Periods of intense fear, usually lasting about ten minutes or so (but sometimes longer).

2) Avoidance Behavior: Avoiding places and situations that are hard to escape from or that might be embarrassing to have to suddenly leave. Most commonly, this is because they fear having a panic attack or unexpected catastrophe and not being able to get help or get away.

3) Developing “Safe” People: People with whom the agoraphobic is highly familiar with and feels emotionally close to. “Safe” people are usually parents, spouses, children, or close friends and relatives.

4) Developing “Safe” Places: Places in which the agoraphobic feels psychologically comfortable. The most common safe place for someone with agoraphobia is his or her own home.

5) Scanning: Obsessive monitoring of one’s own body for strange or unusual symptoms.

6) Fear of being alone: This is related to the fear of having no one to help in the case of a panic attack or real emergency.

If you suspect that you or someone you know might have agoraphobia, don’t waste any time in learning about the disorder. Research has shown that the sooner you start the recovery process the more likely your chances of a successful recovery are.

You can learn more about agoraphobia online at the Agoraphobia Resource Center website. The site was started by a recovered agoraphobic with the intention of helping others learn about and recover from agoraphobia. You can find it on the web at:

Gaming Notebook Prices to Go down Due to Greater Competition

Filed under: The Technology Way at 10:49 pm Comments Off

Gaming laptops used to only be obtainable from niche resellers. They were tiny volume sellers and high profit producing laptops. The most sought after laptops were the ones that were too pricey to consider buying. Maybe they were not the most functional however I still think they were the best laptops. As badly as I desired one I couldn’t afford to buy laptops like them. Better known manufacturers have lately released their own gaming notebooks so its all changing as I say this.

I think they could class it as a top end product and make tons of profit on these particularly with their mass production facilities. Its certainly a good option to bigger gross profits. Companies of that sort are aware they can sway buyers to buy laptops at any price providing they represent it well. If I was a smaller retailer I would definitely be thinking of strategies to react to this type of competition. Now gaming notebooks will no longer be thought of as a specialist sector. In addition the recognisable brand name will give purchasers more confidence.

I reckon its some what laughable that because it comes with an established brand name they’re carelessly perceived as the best laptops. This has the potential to be really positive for small businesses. Sometimes the littler system builders could offer the latest components quicker and hence give higher specs too. These picky buyers are usually very well educated with the technology and are able to check each of the components by themselves. For particular buyers specifications and benchmarks are more valuable than style.

This would be pretty beneficial from the customers position. In the end it will force prices down even further and make the high spec technology even more affordable for the consumer. I write that rather hesitatingly though because the laptop computer business is an extremely fast changing market. New notebook computers are continuously being introduced and these latest models normally ask for high prices. It is tough to tell what will happen now that the large companies have gotten involved in making gaming notebooks.

Scope out http://www.rizeon.com as they are offering some really fast laptops for the money.

Secrets of Great Breads

Filed under: Way Out at 7:50 am Comments Off

Often we field questions about making great bread. Great bread is a matter of using the right ingredients and the right techniquesthere’s no single secret that will make perfect bread. But really great bread is readily attainable. We’ve compiled our list of what goes into great bread.

1. The right flour.

2. An understanding of yeast.

3. A good dough conditioner.

4. A baker’s thermometer.

Now this isn’t everything that goes into great bread but the baker that is armed with these four tools are likely to be baking great bread.

Recently we stated that if there is a secret ingredient that bakers use it’s the flour. So we put the right flour on the top of our list.

To understand how important flour is, you need to understand just a little about gluten. Gluten strands are formed from the proteins naturally occurring in wheat flour. It’s what gives bread its chewy texture. If you use a flour with a higher percentage of protein, you will have more gluten. Most commercial bread bakers are going to use flours with 10 to 14% protein–bread flour.

Commercial bakers have access to dozens of different flours. If you want really good bread, buy a good quality bread flour–even if you have to make a deal with a local baker.

If you buy your flour at the grocery store be aware that all flours are not equal. For bread you want a bread flour. Name brands are likely to do a better job of holding to a specification and will provide more consistent results. You can get an idea of the protein content from the nutrition label. Divide the grams of protein by the grams in the serving size to get the approximate percentage of protein in the flour (subject to rounding error). For home baking, you want at least ten percent and preferably higher.

Yeast is a living organism. The gases expelled by the growing yeast are what leavens the bread. The skilled baker recognizes that with the dough, he or she is culturing a living organism and that the yeast must be growing in the right culture to create the gases to make light airy bread. The right culture is primarily a function of moisture, temperature, and pH or the acidity level.

This brings us to dough conditioner. Dough conditioner alters the pH of the dough (among other things) so that it enhances the growth of the yeast and it makes the dough more extensible. All else being equal, dough conditioner can make a good bread great.

You can buy dough conditioner (or dough enhancer as it is sometimes called) in some grocery stores or you can get our dough conditioner. Ours is a commercial dough conditioner that we have found to be very good and that we use in all our breads.

And finally, a thermometer has been called the baker’s secret weapon. We would not think of making bread without one. We use it to measure water temperature. (When we use our bread machines, we measure the water temperature to exactly 80 degrees-not one degree off. When we make bread in our stand-type mixer or by hand, we use water between 100 degrees and 110 degrees.) We nearly always measure the temperature of the bread when it comes from the oven. And you can use a thermometer to measure the temperature of the dough to make sure that you have the right temperature for your yeast to thrive in. You can buy an insta-read thermometer at most department stores but as a convenience, we offer a baker’s thermometer on our site.

If you don’t have a free copy of Baking Ingredients and How They Work, we recommend that you get one. There is no obligation-you can download it and print it for free.

I wrote an article 2 months ago trying to rally some support for the research for Mental Health Disorders. My main theme was for people to donate to Non-Profit Organization, just $1.00. I mean a Freaking dollar to help people on low income that have a mental health disorder. Now I pointed out the fact that millions were given to the victims of hurricane Katrina.

For some odd reason two months later not ONE GOD DAM DOLLAR WAS DONATED I tried to rally the troops and still no one even could give a measly dollar. Do you realize the new surgeon general report says 1 in 5 Americans will come down with a mental illness in some point in there life and this used to be 1 in 20, I would say that was close to an epidemic, that’s millions more than the victims of the hurricane, yet the city still SLEEPS.

Now what I want you all to know is this, on every cancer patient and heart disease they spend on 1 patient $25 dollars of research, heart disease 1 patient $23 research and the list goes on and on. Now do you want to know the God’s truth? For every 1 Mentally Ill patient they spend, hold on to your hat 1 big huge dollar that’s it! Now I think you can see what is happening here, one lousy dollar for each patient for research.

Now what are we going to do about it? I will make a plea to all those that are reading this please donate $1 measly dollar to this non profit organization, let’s help people get medicine and also raise awareness that we need to be spending billions on a cure and medicine to improve the quality of lives of all the mentally ill. Please forward this to as many people as you possibly can, my goal is to raise $2,000,000 BY THE END OF 2006. Now here is my cell phone # 567-219-0994, any questions that you need answered please do not hesitate to call and I’ll share with you the details of the non profit organization Out of Darkness and what we are trying to do to make a difference in the mental health field.

So please skip the doughnut this Sunday and send $1 to our Pay Pal Account. outof_darkness@yahoo.com now if I weren’t serious why would I give my cell phone # to the whole world to see? Yes, call me I’ll take the time to let you know where we stand and the exciting things we are doing on the front lines to make solid changes for the better of Mental Health Disorders! So please put that extra cheeseburger down, send us a dollar, and know that you had an effect on someone with an emotional problem.

No different from cancer or heart disease and I must remind you of the fact that research is $20 to $25 per patient. Mental health disorders $1 per patients, that is sad, please pass this along to all those that you may know who can afford to donate a dollar and just know that the next person to get a mental health disorder, could be your son or daughter. Then you will be wondering were is that big huge dollar they are going to spend on my loved one going to come from and then at that point you will wish they would give $25 per patient for research, yet they hand you a dollar and say good luck! America Deserves better, get out your wallet NOW and give a dollar. If you don’t have a pay pal account send your dollar to Out of Darkness 43 Oakwood Ave. Suite 1012 Huron, Oh, 44839
