Save Money with the Gevalia Coffee Maker

Filed under: Life Of Shopping at 1:08 am Comments Off

I recently discovered a new blend of coffee, it’s called Gevalia Coffee and boy does it taste good. I was even more amazed with their Gevalia coffee maker that they have. This is one neat looking machine that I can actually see myself using several times a day. They have your single cup as well as one that would fill up your whole office. How often do you drink coffee?

I’m the type of person that visits the coffee shop at least twice a day, by buying myself one of these coffee makers I’d save myself at least $10 a day. Don’t worry about finding a coffee you’ll like with Gevalia they have over 40 different types of coffee to choose from. You could even get hot chocolate or tea if you don’t like coffee. They’ve even got an iced latte maker or something you could make your frappacinos in. Either way this would make a hot day much cooler with just a few ice cubes and your favorite brew. Stop wasting all that money going to the coffee shop and start making your own right here at home. Head on over and buy yourself some Gevalia Coffee or even the coffee maker and start saving money.

Symptoms Of Hormone Imbalance In Women

Filed under: The Gender Issues Hub at 11:23 am Comments Off

Symptoms of hormone imbalance in women may begin as early as the late twenties to the forties. Symptoms of hormone imbalance in women tend to increase as a woman ages, especially if ignored in the earlier years. Hormone imbalance symptoms can be any one or more of the following:

• Allergy symptoms
• Depression, fatigue and anxiety
• Endometriosis
• Fibrocystic breasts
• Hair loss and facial hair growth
• Headaches, dizziness and foggy thinking
• Low sex drive
• Osteoporosis
• PMS
• Urinary tract infections and incontinence
• Uterine fibroids
• Weight gain, water retention and bloating
• Wrinkly skin

Symptoms of hormone imbalance are caused primarily by the incorrect relationship between progesterone and estrogen levels in the body. The two female hormones, estrogen and progesterone, exist in a delicate balance. Variations in that balance can have a dramatic effect on your health, resulting in symptoms of hormone imbalance. The amounts of these hormones that the woman’s body produces from month to month can vary, depending on factors such as stress, nutrition, exercise and most importantly – ovulation or the lack of ovulation.

In the first 10-12 days of the menstrual cycle, only estrogen is produced in the female body. If ovulation occurs, then progesterone is produced by the ovaries. On day 28 or so, levels of both hormones drop, resulting in menstruation. However, if ovulation did not occur, you can still have the menstrual period, but the estrogen is never “balanced” by progesterone, which needed ovulation to trigger its production. And this results in symptoms of hormone imbalance appearing – you have estrogen but progesterone production drops to very low levels.

In the industrialized countries, women take birth control pills, are exposed to household chemicals at home, car exhaust and other environmental xenoestrogens. In addition, women often have stressful lives, eat processed foods or skip meals, take synthetic estrogen HRT (hormone replacement therapy) and have hysterectomies. All these factors can add more estrogen to the female body, resulting in excess estrogen which will cause hormone imbalance symptoms.

How can a woman tell if she is experiencing hormone imbalance symptoms? An easy, fast and effective way is to take the online test provided by a leading womens health clinic for early signs of menopause and symptoms of hormone imbalance in women. The online test takes just a few minutes and is free. Learn more about your health, symptoms, what the symptoms are telling you and what to do about it based on your answers to important questions. Parador Merida

Filed under: Way Out at 11:35 pm Comments Off

The Parador of Merida is another of the Paradores that is located on the “ruta de la plata” – which may be the oldest road in Europe. Built by the Romans, the road got it’s name (plata) from the type of stones with which it was paved – called balatha.

The Merida Parador is housed in a building that has a very long history. It has been controlled by Romans, Visigoths, Moors and Christians, and has gone through times of being a Roman forum and temple, a mosque, a church, a hospital, a jail – and now a very fine Parador hotel.

Most of the ancient vestiges that remain in the Parador of Merida are from the monastery built by the Franciscans in the 15th century. It has a very lovely patio surrounded by arches supported by marble columns. The lounge is the former chapel and has an extraordinarily beautiful ceiling. The Parador of Merida has a serene air and really is one of the prettiest in the Parador chain.

The city of Merida has a fascinating history. Founded around 25 B.C. by the Romans, it was at one time one of the most splendid cities in all of Iberia and was actually the capital of Lusitania (the Roman name for what we now call Portugal). There are more Roman ruins here than anywhere else in Spain, and they make for appealing site-seeing.

Interesting nearby excursions from Parador Merida into the city and nearby environs:

- The Roman Bridge: at a half-mile in length, this was the longest Roman-built bridge in Spain. It has now been closed to car traffic, so you can stroll leisurely and peacefully out across the river Guadiana and take in the views back to the city.

- The Roman Amphitheater: When it was operating in the 1st century B.C. – this grand place seated 15 thousand – who came to watch gladiators and chariot races and fake sea battles (they actually flooded the arena so mock ships could float inside the amphitheater!).

- The Roman Aqueduct: Aqueducto de los Milagros isn’t nearly as well preserved as the one in Segovia, but it has a “haunting” feel to it and harkens back to pre-Biblical times.

- The Alcazaba: This fairly well preserved Moorish castle-fortress was later used by the Knights of Santiago.

- The National Museum of Roman Art: Well worth a visit – it contains all manner of archeologically interesting remains from Roman times.

- There are many other wonderful things to see in Merida – try to stay a few days in order to do this magnificent city justice.

Interesting day trips from the Parador of Merida include:

- Caceres: 68 kilometers to the north is one of the finest “monumental” towns in Spain and has been declared a World Heritage City by UNESCO.

- Trujillo: 90 kilometers away – Trujillo is a simple treasure . . . Spain as it once was, and with a plaza to rival any other in Spain.

- Zafra: 60 kilometers to the south – Zafra is a pleasant town to visit (and there is a Parador there for you to stay at if you prefer).

The Parador Merida is a fine place to stay, and it is located in one of the most interesting cities you’ll ever visit. Don’t hesitate to enjoy this unique combinations of experiences if you are ever traveling in this “out-back” area of Spain – the far west of Extremadura.

SpainParador.com makes it easy for you to plan and arrange your next trip to Spain. This time stay in palaces, castles, and other places of great historical interest and rare beauty – the wonderful Paradors of Spain.

Organized for Success: Five Keys For Making Home-Work Work

Filed under: Better Business at 11:13 pm Comments Off

If only you could work from home you would be able to get more done. No interruptions from co-workers. No pretentious banter with your boss. No sitting in meetings for hours thinking about all the work you could be doing, or better yet, daydreaming of being someplace else altogether. And beyond all that, you’d have no worries about who would pick up the kids or prepare dinner or how you’ll manage to squeeze in your daily workout. Heck, if you worked from home, you’d be able to do all that and more because your life would be so much more convenient and organized. Yeah, right.

Home-based business owners have it tough when it comes to staying balanced and getting things done. Although working from home seems like the ideal situation for being more efficient and organized, and maximizing your time and effort, it doesn’t always work out that way.

Getting and staying organized is more than just buying a PDA and writing a to do list. It involves making a commitment to be efficient in everything you dofrom home and family to leisure, fitness, and of course, business. But what do you do when you have a million things to do in one 24-hour period, and no one to help youor so you think? You get organized.

According to LaNita Filer of Organizing Concepts Plus, a Houston, Texas-based professional organizing firm, you must have a system for everything. “Determine your personality style and find a system that works for you, whether it’s electronic, a planner, file folders, a Palm or good old fashioned paper and pencil,” she advises.

But how do you go about getting organized? Try these suggestions to help manage your time, know where things are when you need them, make the most of your day, and be more efficient.

Organize

Being organized isn’t just for the anal-retentives out there. Nor is it a matter of being meticulous about every aspect of your life. But the benefits of basic organization in your home office can save you time, money and perhaps some embarrassing moments. While it might take you some up-front time to get things in order, it will definitely be to your advantage in the long run.

First of all, take a good look at your work area. If you’re like me, you might not work at a desk. Since I work from home using a laptop computer, my desk is wherever I ammy bed, kitchen table or living room sofa. Wherever you work, place often used items within arms reach so you don’t waste time and energy searching for the cordless telephone, the stapler, the memory key, data CDs or other items critical to your daily tasks.

If you’re comfortable with technology and want to use it to the fullest, automate as much as possible. Get rid of that antiquated Rolodex that’s collecting dust on top of your desk. Take the time to add contacts to your electronic database. Stop using that old-fashioned calculator and start using the one on your computer or PDA. Simple adjustments such as these can help you focus on the task at hand and avoid being distracted by time-wasting activities.

Next, make staying organized an ongoing task. “When you start a new project, immediately make a new folder for it,” advises Filer. “If you prefer to go the electronic route as well, be sure your computer filing system reflects the one in your file cabinet.”

And finally, at the end of each day, create a “To Do” list for the next day. This way you’ll know exactly what needs to get done so you don’t waste time trying to remember that one thing that absolutely, positively has to get done tomorrow. Take it a step further and rank items, placing the most important items first and least important items last. What a great segue to our next suggestion.

Prioritize

Okay, so you’re reviewing your “To Do” list, which includes ten “must do” business items for today. Besides that, you have to mop the floor, take the kids to golf lessons, drop off Duke at the vet, hit the gym and probably take a nap. But what really needs to get done today?

As you prioritize your daily tasks, take a tip from Stephen Covey, author of “The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People”. Handle important tasks so they don’t become urgent tasks. Think about what’s important for today. Prioritizing doesn’t mean putting things off for days and days. That is how important tasks become urgent. Prioritizing simply means ranking and executing tasks based upon their relationship to the other important things you need to do today.

As Filer puts it, “How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time.” She suggests first looking at which of your tasks offers the biggest payoff. “Tackle that one first and then work on the next three most important items. The rest will be cake,” she shares.

Do you really have to file all those papers today? Could you mop the floor tomorrow? Do you have to contact everyone in your database today or just a dozen or so? Maybe you’ll have to forego the nap and just hit the sack early tonight. Perhaps you could ask your wife to take the dog to the vet. Which brings me to the next point.

Working from home doesn’t mean you no longer have a support team to help when you need help. As a home-based entrepreneur you should have a team you can count on.

Delegate

Whether your team is your family, friends or sub-contractors, begin to place a higher value on them and learn to trust your team and their ability to help you. Delegating doesn’t mean passing the buck. It is a smart practice that all successful executives employ regularly.

“Surround yourself with people who are qualified and whose strengths complement yours,” suggests Filer. Don’t wait until you’re overwhelmed to call upon your team for help. When you review your “To Do” list, determine if someone else would be better suited to handle a task than you. Perhaps your daughter would enjoy entering your contacts into your database for a few bucks. Have your bookkeeper organize those files. Assign your designer the task of researching ideas for your new brochure. Enlist the neighbor to walk the dog. Hire a housekeeper.

If you’re new to delegating, giving up control might be the hardest part. But Filer gives wise advice in saying, “Relinquish control and that will give you more time to do the things your love.” Give people small responsibilities, ask for regular status reports, reward a job well done, and then build upon their successes.

Delegating activities to others on your team, frees you up to work your day in a way that makes the most sense for you. Speaking of that…

Structure Your Day

I know what you’re thinking, “I decided to work from home because I don’t like structure!” Think about it this way, structuring your day doesn’t mean giving yourself one hour to do this or thirty minutes to do that. It simply means arranging your daily tasks to suit your own mental and intellectual flow.

Filer suggests you set boundaries, set reminders for tasks and use a timer as a cutoff for projects or activities. You know yourself better than anyone, so use that knowledge to structure your day so that you can be your most efficient. How many hours do you want to work each daythree, seven, twelve? While every day is different, you do have control over how much of your 24-hour day you spend working. So make the most of your workday by tackling each task with a fresh attitude.

Do you dread making phone calls? Get that done first thing when you arrive at your desk. Do it and get it out of the way. Tackling those dreaded tasks first can boost your confidence, clear your mind and allow you to move on to things more to your liking. Is your mind clearer and more creative in the middle of the day? Use that time to brainstorm, create designs, plan activities or write. Are you more objective in the evening? Take this time to review, assess and evaluate.

Progress Not Perfection

Let’s face it, there will be days when you just don’t get as much done as you would like to. But if you employ these suggestions, you will find that you’re able to function more efficiently in each task and get more done with ease and enjoyment. Aim for progress in your day, not perfection. As human beings, we make mistakes, we miss the mark, we forget things and we even blow things (and people) offwe are not perfect. But being committed to making progress each and every day will yield the rewards of success.

Redlands web design culture needs a boost

Filed under: Better Business and Buyers Guides and Commerce Compass at 12:50 pm Comments Off

It is well known that Redlands lacks in the technology sector. Businesses here tend to be more old fashioned and less concerned with modern advances. This has been a problem for many businesses attempting to set up shop within a city that is years behind even some of their close neighbors. Neighbors with lower population and even less in annual earned income per individual.

So what can we do about it? Well as Alfred said in Batman Begins, we can endure. More than endure though we need to make a change. This means that while we understand that some cities are hesitate to change, especially change in technology, we can force their hand by creating and establishing great new creative technologies within the city. That way, when it’s presented to other businesses in the area, they’ll see the advantages in having companies of a higher technological prowess. For instance, Redlands is certainly lacking in good quality design firms. This is a problem because with good design spouts a wellspring of other great looking business factors in the city. Some Redlands web design firms are already doing this.

There is a real chance to bring about more creativity and life and great design to a city who desperately needs it. All it takes is a company with the right motivation to bring about that change. A company that is willing to go out and actively campaign for a better type of design system for small and large businesses in the city. This can be difficult, with the old guard dictating with is and is not acceptable for good design. But with proper design and web design in place, Redlands can start to become a great hub of quality business within the Inland Empire.

3 Innovative Ways to Build an Optin Email List That Stands Above the Crowd

Filed under: Best Marketing at 8:59 pm Comments Off

With so many optin email lists out there, your really need to come up with a hook to attractive subscribers. It needs to have something special or different. It could be something you offer inside every newsletter issue, like interviews with experts. Or the hook could be a unique incentive that website vistors can take advantage of immediately when they sign up.

Here are 3 ideas you can use for your own sites, or use as inspiration to get you thinking a little outside of the box:

– Build an Optin Email List by Creating a Private Members Only Site or Section –

Create a private web site and have people sign up to get free, immediate access. For example, you could say, “Subscribe
to our free e-zine and get free access to our private membership web site!” You can choose to have them receive a username and password every time they want to login, or you can just provide a link to the site in your welcome email.

Your private members only site can be as big or as small as you want. Some of the things you can include inside are: reports, software, articles, ebooks, etc. Inside the site, you can advertise your affiliate programs, as well. And you can follow-up to let them know about updates, new products they might be interested in, the latest news in your industry, etc.

– Build an Optin Email List By Giving Subscribers a Free, Tangible Gift –

Instead of offering a free ebook (or a whole package of them) like most everybody else, promise to give your visitors something they can hold in their hands if they give you their contact information.

For example, you could say “Subscribe today and get our new report mailed to you via First Class.” You could print out your report on standard 8 x 11 sheets of paper, fold it up, put it inside an envelope, and mail it off.

Or you can offer a tips booklet and mail it to new subscribers. Or you can create your own CD full of information targeted toward your market and mail that. Or if you have a wholesale supply of a product of interest to your subscribers, then you can send one to each new subscriber. The possibilities are only limited by your imagination.

Follow-up possibilities include: articles (your own or written by others), tips you pick up, news in your niche, reviews of products or other interested, related websites, etc.

– Build an Optin Email List Through a Contest or Sweepstakes –

Hold a free contest or sweepstakes at your website where they must give their contact information, including their email address, to enter. Make the prize something that your niche market will be interested in. Otherwise, they’ll never want to enter.

If you already have an ezine up and running, you could offer free automatic entry for new subscribers. For example, you could say, “Subscribe to our free newsletter and get automatic entry into our contest.” You’ll also want to retroactively include current subscribers.

You can announce the winner(s) at the end, as well as send any new contest announcements or product announcements. Or you can make this an ongoing contest, where you give away the same thing to one (or more) lucky people every month. That way you’ll entice many subscribers to stay on your list.

You can find niche products to give away through wholesalers or dropshippers. Or you can create it yourself. One of my favorite ways to do this is create a CD-Rom with a guide or report (or sometimes several) that my niche market will find interesting.

Once again, you can follow-up with tips, articles, news, new product announcements, or just an announcement of each monthly winner(s).

Hopefully, now I’ve inspired you to take some action or encouraged ideas of your own with these tips. Any idea, the more popular it gets, requires you to think outside the box every now and then in order to be effective. Building an optin email list is no different. And with newsletters and ezines saturating the Internet day by day, you need to offer something a little different to make them want to sign up to yours. Or you’ll just end up getting left behind.

The Song Writer and the Poet

Filed under: Uncategorized at 2:28 am Comments Off

Have you heard the phrase The Wreck of the Hesperus? How about Ivan Skivinsky Skivar?

The first, The Wreck of the Hesperus is from a poem by Longfellow. Longfellow was a New Englander born in 1807 and died in 1882. He was a Mayflower descendent. (I am too. So are a zillion other Americans.)

The poem describes a sea captain that took his young daughter to sea. They died in the wreck during a hurricane. Read about Longfellow and his poem at: http://eclecticesoterica.com/longfellow.html. You should read The Song of Hiawatha and The Village Blacksmith too.

Americans love Longfellow because his poems are easy to understand and many like his simple Solomon-Seesaw cadence.

The second, Ivan Skivinsky Skivar, is from the song Abdul Abulbul Ameer. It was written by the Englishman Percy French (1854-1920). Read the lyrics to this humorous song at: http://rpo.library.utoronto.ca/poem/3243.html.

Percy was an engineer but considered himself to be an artist. He never received one dime for his songs and they were often published without even a name credit.

If you like Abdul Abulbul Ameer, you will also enjoy Robert Service, the Canadian poet that wrote about the Yukon. My favourite is The Cremation of Sam McGee. Read it at: http://rpo.library.utoronto.ca/poem/1841.html.

Have fun!
